Here we are nearing the end of summer (already). Soon, if conditions allow, thousands of young people will be heading off to continue their education after high school. This comes at a tumultuous time for the country’s economy. Millions have filed for unemployment because of the Covid19 pandemic. All of those things together make it a good time to talk about the job opportunities presented by an HVAC career choice.
Choices in education
If you’ve already made the choice about furthering your education, more power to you. If you are still trying to decide, make sure you consider all options. I want to assure everyone I’m not bashing on traditional four-year colleges, but they aren’t the right choice for everyone. Too many times that four-year degree is rewarded with uncertain job opportunities and a mountain of student loan debt. Choosing to attend a trade or technical school for a year or two will cost far less. When your studies are complete there is a near guarantee of a job to start building an HVAC career or any of the skilled trades you choose to study.
Continued job growth
Even in these uncertain times people need the services of HVAC companies to heat and cool homes and businesses in Illinois and Northwest Indiana. The experts all agree, the job opportunities are there and will continue to grow in the future. I can only speak for Merts Heating & Cooling, but I know the jobs we offer come with competitive wages and full benefits.
Varied opportunities
The most visible work is in field operations. Trained HVAC technicians do installations, repair, and maintenance. They work on heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems whether residential or commercial. The primary skills used to be mechanical, but now modern HVAC equipment now demands more technological knowledge. I also want to be clear; the industry offers many other job opportunities in addition to field work:
- Customer service representatives
- Dispatchers
- Office management & accounting
- Marketing & sales
Hiring the best employees is what allows Merts Heating & Air Conditioning to fulfill its motto, “Quality and Honesty Since 1952.” If you’re ready to start your HVAC career in Illinois or Northwest Indiana check out the job opportunities at Merts.
